![]() ![]() ![]() Poking around in the blogosphere, I learned that A) PocketMac sucked (which I’d figured out on my own) B) Missing Sync for the BlackBerry seemed to be the solution of choice for tethered contacts and calendar sync and C) Spanning Sync was the way to go for cloud-based calendar sync with Google Apps. Luckily, I had backups of my data files, but PocketMac proved to be an enormous waste of time and effort. Starting with my Franklin REX in 1997, I’ve used portable devices running operating systems from Motorola, Nokia, Microsoft, Palm, BlackBerry, and maybe one or two others I’ve forgotten–none of which polluted, duplicated, corrupted, or flat-out deleted data like PocketMac did. Let me remove any doubt from the equation–PocketMac was without question or hyberbole, the unequivocally worst PIM sync solution I’d ever used. So, for contacts and calendar sync, I went with RIM’s offering at the time, PocketMac. Meeting my other two needs was a little more challenging.īlackBerry Desktop Manager for Windows was obviously the slam-dunk choice if I’d been on a PC, but I wasn’t–nor was I willing to run a Windows virtual machine just to run BDM, particularly since moving contacts and calendars between my Mac and Windows would be a process in and of itself, rather than having that synchronization occur as part of my normal workflow on my Mac. For e-mail, I chose Google Apps for Your Domain, as its IMAP capabilities make e-mail work the way e-mail should work. When I launched my consultancy in 2007, I knew that the BlackBerry and the Mac were my two platforms of choice, so I set to work to determine the best approach to keep my e-mail, contacts, and calendar in sync. Nope.Ī little background…I’m not exactly a newb when it comes to matters of syncing a BlackBerry and a Mac. In fact, I’ve held off writing this recap I’ve hoped that each of the last 10 days, I’d wake up to some magic button that allowed synchronization to occur accurately. Maybe by the time I’m done writing this review, I’ll have made that determination. ![]() I’m not sure if I should give RIM a D, an F, or an incomplete. The good news is that RIM has a chance to fix this in short order, whereas Chicago just goes back to being a great city that isn’t going to get a second chance to host the big games in seven years. I had high hopes for both both ended up poorly. But after some finagling and trial-and-error, now I've got syncs running smoothly.Friday October 2nd will be remembered for two epic failures – Chicago’s elimination in the first round of voting for the 2016 Olympics, and for the release of RIM’s horribly incomplete Desktop Manager for the Mac. When I first tried to sync, it simply errored out and said that the sync failed. (For example, "".) And then make a backup of your Mac's Address Book (export it to a file), and use this software to make a backup of your BlackBerry, so you have something to revert to if things don't go well. But at its best, it works well for syncing, and it also brings in the abilities of the Windows BDM that the other Mac syncing products have lacked: backing up and restoring your phone, and managing applications installed on it.īefore using this software, read some comments and troubleshooting tips about it on BlackBerry discussion forums. PocketMac was terrible, and so was Missing Sync both have a long history of deleting and corrupting information and of randomly throwing up errors.Īdmittedly, at its worst, BlackBerry Desktop Manager is no better lots of people have been reporting these same kinds of problems with it. I am thrilled that we finally have a decent BlackBerry syncing solution on the Mac. Some configurations, such as updating your media card size, aren't displayed when you connect your smartphone. If you connect a BlackBerry smartphone that is running BlackBerry Device Software 4.1 or lower to the BlackBerry Desktop Software, you don't receive a message that the smartphone is unsupported. After upgrading from a previous version of the BlackBerry Desktop Software, the phone number for the Apple Assistant in your contacts switches fields although you didn't make that change. If you connect your BlackBerry PlayBook tablet when it's turned off, the tablet isn't connected when you turn it on again. In Access Control, select Allow for all applications. Workaround: On your Mac, open the keychain access. If you select Always Allow, when you disconnect and reconnect your device, you will receive the error message again. If you are running OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard, when you connect your smartphone or tablet to the BlackBerry Desktop Software, you receive an error message indicating that the BlackBerry Device Manager wants to use confidential information stored in your keychain.Version 204.00.18: Installation/Connection ![]()

The bucket seat and pronounced side bolsters serve a very important purpose. ![]() Race car seats are designed to hold you in place while making fast turns. Designing a chair to mimic a car seat was done to help make the user more immersed in the experience. This design has been used on gaming chairs because gaming chairs were first developed for racing games. The first downside with most gaming chairs is the bucket seat design with side bolsters. Keep this in mind when shopping for a gaming chair and you should have a good idea of what to expect at various price points. The best chairs in the world cost around $1,000+. Chairs over $700 are typically considered high-end. Low-end office chairs cost $300 and under. It works the same way with office chairs. But, if you go out with $10,000 to buy a new car, you aren’t going to get a top-end car. The best way that I can explain this is buying a car. I am not saying that $300 is a small amount of money, but $300 is not going to give you very much buying power in the office seating market. $300 in the world of office chairs is going to get you a low end office chair. People often think that paying $300 for a gaming chair means that they are going to get one of the best quality chairs out there. It is not uncommon for customers to have unrealistic expectations for the prices they are paying for merchandise, but this seems to be an especially common problem with gaming chairs.Ĭustomers often expect too much out of a gaming chair for the price that they are paying. I feel that the #1 problem with gaming chairs falls upon the customer.

This is also the last id Software game to feature American McGee before he was fired shortly after its release. Artist and co-owner Adrian Carmack had said that Quake II is his favorite game in the series because "it was different and a cohesive project". Activision obtained the worldwide distribution rights to the game in May 1997. The game was developed with 13 person team. Bitterman fights his way through the Strogg city, destroying strategic objectives along the way, and finally kills the Strogg leader, the Makron in his orbital asteroid base. Bitterman survives because another Marine's personal capsule collided with his upon launch, causing him to crash far short of the landing zone. Most of the other soldiers are captured or killed as soon as they approach the planned landing zone. ![]() In the single-player game, the player assumes the role of a Marine named Bitterman taking part in "Operation Alien Overlord", a desperate attempt to prevent an alien invasion of Earth by launching a pre-emptive attack against the home planet of the hostile Strogg civilization. Quake II takes place in a science fiction environment. Each model can be customized from in the in-game menu via the selection of pre-drawn skins, which differ in many ways for example, skin color, camouflage style, and application of facepaint. However, whereas in Quake, the only option was to change the color of the player's uniform unless third party modifications were used, now the game comes with a selection of three different player models: a male marine, a female marine, and a male cyborg choice of player model also affects the speech effects the player's character will make, such as exhaling in effort while jumping or groaning when injured. Prior to the release of these maps, players were limited to playing multiplayer games on the single-player levels, which, while functional as multiplayer levels, were not designed with deathmatch gameplay specifically in mind.Īs in Quake, it is possible to customize the way in which the player appears to other people in multiplayer games. They were introduced to the game via one of the early patches, that were released free of charge. The deathmatch game benefited from the release of eight specifically designed levels that id Software added after the game's initial release. It can also be played in Capture the Flag mode (CTF). It can be played as a free-for-all deathmatch game mode, a cooperative version of the single-player game, or as a 1 vs 1 match that is used in official tournaments, like the Cyberathlete Professional League. The multiplayer portion is similar to that of Quake. Enemies demonstrate visible wounds after they have taken damage. Some of the textures and symbols that appear in the game are very similar to some of those found in Quake. There is also a hub system that allows the player to travel back and forth between levels, which is necessary to complete certain objectives. The game features much larger levels than Quake, with many more wide open areas. It is not possible to interact with these characters, however, as they have all been driven insane by their Strogg captors. Another addition is the inclusion of a non-hostile character type: the player character's captured comrades. CGI cutscenes are used to illustrate the player's progress through the main objectives, although they are all essentially the same short piece of video, showing a computerized image of the player character as he moves through game's levels. First, the player is given mission-based objectives that correspond to the storyline, including stealing a Tank Commander's head to open a door and calling down an air-strike on a bunker. The single player game features a number of changes from Quake. The Quad Damage power up from Quake is present in Quake II, and new power-ups include the Ammo Pack, Invulnerability, Bandolier, Enviro-Suit, Rebreather, and Silencer. The six newly introduced weapons are the Blaster, Machine Gun, Chain Gun, Hyperblaster, Railgun, and BFG10K. The remainder of Quake 's eight weapons (the Axe, Nailgun, Super Nailgun, and Thunderbolt) are not present in Quake II. The game retains four of the eight weapons from Quake (the Shotgun, Super Shotgun, Grenade Launcher, and Rocket Launcher), although they have been redesigned visually and made to function in slightly different ways. The gameplay is very similar to that featured in Quake, in terms of movement and controls, although the player's movement speed has been slowed down, and the player now has the ability to crouch. Quake II is a first-person shooter, in which the player shoots enemies from the perspective of the main character. The single-player mode in Quake II involves gun-battles often with multiple enemies in large, outdoor areas. ![]() ![]() ![]() Since all log blocks in the Optimistic FTL are complete and sequential, a partial merge ( Fig. At the time, if there is no free log block, a victim log block is selected to be merged with the corresponding data block.
